Business of the Week

Each week, Copperhead Lodge selects a local business as “Business of the Week” and provides them with a full catered lunch. Typically, we choose businesses based on a nomination submitted by our customer. The last few weeks we’ve been honoring our dedicated men and women in the city and county government offices.

Union County Commissioners’ Office

Lamar Paris has been the leader of our progressive mountain county since 2001. Thecommissioner Commissioners’ office oversees all the operations for the county, and is supported by several employees (pictured here Yazi Burnette) who were thrilled to get a catered lunch. Due to other commitments, Mr. Paris missed lunch, but we hope the staff enjoyed our show of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

It will be a night to remember as four sisters, ages 10 to 16, take the stage with 12 instruments and singing family-harmonies that delivers a captivating musical performance larger than life.  von Grey Music: A rapidly-rising country/pop band from Atlanta that created a unique sound of their own. Their original works, although rooted in country, manage to weave in creative elements from across musical genres.  Their music is equally at home with tight guitar licks, smokin’ violin solos, rich cello sounds, and fast-pickin’ banjo – an experience not to be missed!

The von Grey’s have opened for Sarah McLachlan and The Chieftains and were voted Atlanta Magazine’s ‘Best Emerging Artist’ for 2009. They’ve all been trained on violin, guitar, cello, and voice since early childhood.  More information available:  www.vongrey.com

Nashville Unleashed Special Christmas Concert

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. (November 22, 2011) Join Jack & Diane, along with a few of their fellow Nashville Recording Artists, in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains for a special concert event at The Lodge at Copperhead on December 17th, 7:30 p.m.  The concert will take place “in the round” in the Grand Hall, by candlelight, over dinner. Special cabin and room discounts apply to all ticketholders for this show.  Advance Tickets $18 VIP Seating (closest to the performers), $12 General Admission and $15 at the door.  Tickets are available at website calendar – www.TheLodgeatCopperhead.com

Nashville Unleashed with Jack & Diane is an unprecedented concert experience, catering to couples and music lovers in an intimate, “in the round” format. Similar to VH-1’s Storytellers, the audience is invited behind the scenes, as Nashville’s elite performing songwriters share the inspiration behind their music and the stories behind their songs. The professional writers WOW the audience with their superior musicianship and open themselves up personally.

About The Performers:

JACK & DIANE – Jack & Diane’s life plays out like a song we all know so well. As a married couple, the combination of their music and love for one another immediately resonates with an audience. Most refer to their music as a “bluesy, more soulful style of country.”  With her heaviest vocal influences being Artists like Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Nicks, one announcer told an audience that “Diane’s voice is as smooth as warm butter”. Jack, who formerly toured with Artists like George Thorogood and Brian Setzer, is revered as a tasteful and impressive guitar player/multi-instrumentalist.

Dani Carroll

DANI CARROLL– From her touching lyrics to her moving melodies, there is no doubt that the pure raw emotion in Dani’s music is a rare thing. Dani is revisiting her first love, Jazz, with a CD release this Spring. Dani has worked with such Nashville greats as David Malloy, producer for Reba McIntyre, Dolly Parton, and Mindy McCready; Mark Collie, a #1 charting country artist and songwriter; John Jarvis, two-time Grammy winning songwriter; and Skip Ewing, a Grammy nominated country artist and songwriter with over twelve #1’s to his credit. Dani performed often with Elektra recording artist Jason Mraz [“The Remedy,” “You and I Both”] in San Diego, her hometown. Making the move to Nashville in 2002 and inking a deal with Famous Music Publishing, Dani continues to write songs with some of Music Row’s top talent. Her distinctive alto voice and awe-inspiring presence on stage makes her performances a memorable experience for audiences everywhere.

MASON DOUGLAS possesses a distinguished diversity, sounding like Chris Isaak with his signature, sexy falsettos; like Garth Brooks with his honesty & range; & others even say he’s ‘country music’s Rob Thomas’. Mason has: showcased at the Ryman Auditorium; opened for Trace Adkins, James Otto, & Jewel; continued radio airplay with the song “Home Free”; released his 2010 debut CD on Rural Rhythm Records. Mason is: a HUGE military supporter; originally from Tucson, Arizona; a diehard Arizona Wildcats & Dallas Cowboys fan; a red wine lover.

JUSTIN ZIMMER – With his boyish grin, impressive vocals, and sought-after guitar chops, Justin is a memorable Artist that grabs the instant attention of the audience. Fresh off the Tiffany tour which included ABC’s Good Morning America and The View, Justin’s impeccable talent pales in comparison only to his genuine and humble nature.

ABOUT THE RESORT: The Lodge at Copperhead, Blairsville, GA – North Georgia’s Premier Vacation Destination and Special Events Venue.  This scenic retreat is located just outside Blairsville, GA, within a few hours of Atlanta, Nashville, and Charlotte, in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains.

Appalachian Chili Cook-off in Review

Appalachian Chili Cook-off in Review

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. (November 7, 2011) A misty morning welcomed chili cookers for the 2nd Annual Appalachian Chili Cook-off at The Lodge at Copperhead, Blairsville on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Chili Cookers arrived early to set-up their booths on the famed wrap-around porch.   A cloud mist giving a mystic feel to the morning’s activities added to the intrigue of the event. The outdoor fireplace was lit reflecting a red and orange glow as contestants warmed themselves with a cup of coffee before beginning the competition.  An easy comrade developed between chili cookers as they squared-off for the competition.

Chili lovers and music aficionados strolled the porch sampling and voting for their favorite chili while listening to “Neighborhood Watch” a young and upcoming blues band.  The Autumn day temperature reached a high of 64 degrees to the delight of attendees.  By mid-afternoon, Chili judges arrived to sample and determine the best Appalachian Mountain Chili in the non-professional and professional categories through a double blind taste-testing.

The winners were as follows:  The backyard, non-professional team winner was Rapid Robert’s Gourmet Chili, Blairsville. The professional team winner and People’s Choice Award was presented to the Team Chef for Greenside Grill, Chatuge Shores Golf Course, Hayesville, North Carolina.  This award included cash and the Copper Spoon Award.  The overall winner, “The Best Chili in the Appalachians,” was Rangers Chili Team, Dahlonega, Ga.  The Team Chef, Alec Carlson was presented a gift certificate for a weekend stay – The Lodge at Copperhead.

Overall Winner - Rangers Chili, Dahlonega, GA

Winner: Professional Chef Team & People's Choice Awards: Greenside Grill, Chatuge Shores Golf Course, Hayesville, NC

Michelle Evans, Spokesperson for the Lodge, said “We appreciate all the chili teams who participated in this year’s event.”  “Each team cooked outstanding Chili that everyone enjoyed making it another fun day in the mountains of North Georgia.”  The Lodge at Copperhead thanks the judges for their difficult reviews and the general public for attending this year’s event.  This annual event was sponsored by Budweiser.  For information about upcoming events:  www.thelodgeatcopperhead.com
