Veterans Memorial Ground-breaking The Lodge at Copperhead

Veterans Memorial Ground-breaking – The Lodge at Copperhead

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. (November 12, 2011) Nearly two hundred veterans and friends of the Lodge braved the chilly morning for the solemn occasion of honoring all veterans, past and present, for their service to the United States of America.  The date 11-11-11 will be forever chiseled in the minds of those who attended the Veterans Memorial Ground-breaking at The Lodge at Copperhead.  Promptly at 11 a.m. veterans and their families and friends gathered for a Flag Ceremony and ground-breaking for the new Veterans Memorial Monument to be constructed during the winter months and dedicated April 7th 2012.

Long-time Union County resident, Charles Rich, lead the opening ceremony as attendees listened and others who were unable to bare the cold watched from selected viewpoints at the Lodge.

Following the ground-breaking ceremony, attendees gathered at the Lodge for a free picnic and music by the band, “Crazy Heart,” a group of respected musicians with ties to the community and the armed forces.  Crazy Heart was formed for the purpose of performing for the November 11th Ceremony.  Crazy Heart is: Wendell Patterson, bass guitar and vocals, Kiyo Clendaniel on vocals and harmonies, Tim Mustin on drums, vocals and harmonies, and Don Byers on lead guitar and vocals.

Michelle Evans, Spokesperson for the Lodge, said “We appreciate the united efforts of those attending and participating in the ceremony.”  “And, a special thank you to those who traveled from afar to attend.”
