Hog Jam 2012 – Results

Hog Jam 2012 Results

A foggy morning gave way to a beautiful fall day filled with the aroma of BBQ in the North Georgia Mountains on Saturday, October 13, 2012. Professional and backyard teams worked tirelessly through the evening  Friday and all day Saturday to compete for the thousands of dollars in prize money.

In its inaugural year, the Presenting Sponsor for Hog Jam 2012 was Forty Creek Whisky. All members of the BBQ teams, sponsors, judges, vendors, and board members of the sanctioning body, Georgia BBQ Association, enjoyed a Friday night welcome reception sponsored by Forty Creek Whisky and Kinetic Telecom Services. The reception featured hors’d oeuvres prepared by Chef Bill Minkert and the Copperhead Culinary Team as well as an open bar featuring Forty Creek Whisky. Live music by 12 Gauge Persuaders kept the teams up and dancing until it was time to get to the work they had come for – BBQ!

On Saturday, vendors lined the covered front porch of the Lodge, along with a large display set up by Harley Davidson of Cartersville, another event sponsor. Patrons were able to shop with vendors, enjoy a plate of BBQ donated by Bi-Lo, Blairsville, GA and prepared by Smokey Q BBQ, Blairsville, GA and listen to live music by Modern Vinyl and Mike Watson Blues Band.

Rockfest 2012 – Kickin’ it at The Lodge

Rockfest 2012 – Kickin’ it at The Lodge…

In its first year at a new location, this fundraising event for Mountain United Soccer Association, GA Top Soccer, Cole Bowen, (see video) and Recording Artists Against MS, was a HUGE success! Three local bands, 12 Gauge Persuaders, Ratz, and Modern Vinyl entertained the crowd all afternoon under a beautiful, clear, North Georgia sky. Shad Bradley graciously MC’d the event throughout the day, with sound expertise provided by Michael Kennedy, and videography by Sean Clyde of C&C Media.

Spectators feasted on fresh smoked Pulled Pork sandwiches, Baby Back ribs and Turkey Legs by Chef Bill Minkert of The Lodge at Copperhead. Volunteers manned the ticket booths and food booths, and the event couldn’t have happened with all of them who gave so freely of their time.

David Zenniger ran the Corn Hole Tournament which was a thrill for young and old alike. Georgia Soccer Association gave away free schwag all day long and had plenty of soccer balls and beach balls for the kids to play with. Raffles held throughout the day with prizes provided by Best Buy, and The Lodge at Copperhead gave spectators a little something extra to take with them besides the memories of a great day filled with music and fun.

This event, in its fifth year, would not be possible without the support of our local businesses, family sponsors and most importantly, Richard Smith, founder of MUSA and the hardest working volunteer for this event every year. Patronize our sponsors, and let them know how important their support is for keeping kids in soccer and helping those suffering with Multiple Sclerosis.
