Sydney’s Rally – Win a Weekend Getaway!

bike300It’s that time again! The spring Gauntlet Thunder in the Mountains Rally is April 21 – 24, 2016.  This year’s rally has been nicknamed “Sydney’s Rally”. Sydney Trentham, a senior at UT, is on a campaign to raise money for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults (UCF), and Copperhead Lodge is going to help her. You can win a 3 night cabin stay when you donate $40 or more to Sydney’s journey.

Sydney’s parents, Brent and Barbara, came to Copperhead Lodge first as customers, and later became cabin owners. Her mother was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2015, so the illness is no stranger to her. Like many touched by the disease, Sydney wanted to do something to help raise awareness, help bring about a cure, and help those currently fighting. She chose UCF as her way to make a difference.

4K-Logo-Simple-TF-colors.0The Ulman Cancer Fund was founded in 1997 after 19 year old Doug Ulman was diagnosed with cancer, and he and his family found there was a need for resources for young adult cancer patients. Sydney is participating in a 4000 mile bicycle ride to help raise money and awareness. The cancer support ride originally began in 2001, organized by students at Johns Hopkins University as the “4K for Cancer”, and merged with the Ulman Cancer Fund in 2011. Last year there were four cross country bicycle rides and two cross country runs across America, for UCF.

Sydney began training in late January for the ride, which will take place this summer. She family300and a group of college-aged students will ride for 70 days, covering more than 4000 miles between Baltimore and San Francisco. Sydney says “my goal is to raise $10,000 for the Ulman Cancer Fund”, and with the help of Copperhead Lodge and many generous donors, we believe she will surpass that goal.

We are proud to support Sydney with her fund raising, and have made her goal to raise money for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults our charity of choice for the spring Gauntlet Thunder in the Mountains Rally. Anyone donating $40 or more to Sydney’s fund will be entered into a drawing to win a 3 night cabin stay at Copperhead Lodge. Drawing will be held April 24, 2016.

Secret Roads

Friday, May 18th, Wayne Busch from America Rides Maps presented to a group of riders gathered at The Lodge at Copperhead, a couple hundred of his favorite Blue Ridge Motorcycle Rides to help find new places to ride and enjoy. Riders were updated on current road conditions, suggestions for your routes, and help finding the best secret roads in the mountains.

Then, on Saturday, May 19th the eager group of riders saddled up and enjoyed the wonder that is the North Georgia Mountains. A cool morning turned into a warm afternoon as a group of motorcycle enthusiasts joined Wayne Busch from America Rides Maps on a twisty, Spring journey that had no rules, no hassles, and no planning. It was meant to be an enjoyable experience where the goal was just to have fun riding together, and that’s exactly what happened. Suggestions were taken before the ride so participants could share places they wanted to go or types of scenery they wanted to see, and then it was time to just head out and let the journey bring what it would. What an adventure it was. About the only thing more beautiful than the Georgia Mountains in the Spring, is the Georgia mountains in the Fall. I think I see another ride on the horizon.

Wayne Busch, creator or America Rides Maps and the Smoky Mountain Rider Blog, makes your motorcycle vacation trips so easy because he rides the mountains searching out the most scenic and challenging motorcycle rides, he compares them and highlights the best ones on his maps, then he seeks out the best ways to connect them. You relax and enjoy knowing so many great ways to find your dream rides.
